As the lead Web Developer and UX Design contributor for Wander Like Me, I am at the helm of our ambitious website redesign project, aimed at streamlining the itinerary discovery process for travelers seeking personalized adventures. Leveraging my expertise in cutting-edge web technologies and user-centered design principles, this initiative seeks to replace a lengthy survey with an engaging, interactive experience, enhancing user satisfaction and engagement. Tasked with bridging technical implementation and user experience optimization, my role is critical in transforming our vision into a digital reality that makes exploring like a local not just a possibility, but a seamless, intuitive journey for our users.
Problem
Wander Like Me faced a key issue: our lengthy survey deterred users from finding personalized travel itineraries, negatively impacting engagement and satisfaction. Our goal is to simplify this process, making it easier and more enjoyable for users to plan their adventures.
Steps
We addressed the challenge by replacing the long survey with the Explore page, transforming it into an intuitive online marketplace where users can easily browse and filter itineraries based on their preferences. This significant shift away from a cumbersome questionnaire to a user-friendly interface has dramatically improved the process of discovering personalized travel adventures, enhancing user engagement and satisfaction with Wander Like Me.
Homepage
In our homepage redesign, we focused on creating a shorter scroll, significantly enhancing user experience and accessibility. By incorporating more interactive elements and vibrant illustrations, we've made the page not only more engaging but also easier to navigate, ensuring users can quickly find what they need while enjoying a visually appealing journey through Wander Like Me.
Explore Page
In designing the Explore page, we prioritized user experience and accessibility best practices to create a seamless and inclusive platform. Practical filters were implemented to cater to user needs, making the search for the perfect itinerary effortless. Additionally, we introduced a map view feature, allowing users to visually search and select itineraries directly on the map, enhancing the overall exploration and selection process on "Wander Like Me."
Chat with Locals Page
The Chat with Locals page introduces the innovative Wander DM feature, allowing travelers to text our locals directly for insider advice while on the go. It's like having a travel guide in your pocket, ready to assist with all those unique questions you can't find answers to on Google. This feature ensures travelers have access to authentic, real-time advice, making their travel experience more enriched and informed.
